Are you looking for a place to host a traveling group on the Big Island? Arnott’s Lodge has experience hosting smaller groups of up to 50 people from all over the world.
Arnott’s Lodge is ideal for Hawaii group travel, including university groups and other traveling school groups, because we provide an intimate, safe place to convene. Our Lodge is in a convenient position in Hilo: we are in a quieter neighborhood away from the noise and bustle of downtown, but are still within easy distance of some of the most fascinating aspects of the island for class foci, such as Volcanoes National Park, the Hamakua Coast, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and the Puna district. We are also in easy walking distance to several beaches.
We’ve accommodated school groups who were visiting the Big Island for many reasons, including cultural studies, geology, environmental studies, biology, chemistry, and history. We have regularly accommodated groups for sporting events, such as rugby, volleyball, and paddling, and every year during Merrie Monarch we host a hula halau. We’ve also hosted round-the-island cycling groups and camping groups on many occasions.
One of the reasons we make such a good home base for these smaller groups is because the majority of our rooms have kitchenettes, meaning that groups can choose to either coordinate their own meals, or arrange for dining out or catering. We have several guest meeting spaces available. We are also capable of providing transportation for these groups using our fleet of Arnott’s tour vehicles, and in the past we’ve arranged transport all over the island for various reasons.
Transportation
Our fleet is available for our lodge tours, including the Mauna Kea Summit tour, our Big Island Eruption Encounter, the Hilo Food tour, and the Frozen Fire tour. We can also arrange for a private tour for your group. Just send us an inquiry and we’ll let you know the possibilities. We are able to customize a tour to your needs.
Please note:
- The minimum group size for the group rate is 12 persons, and to get the group price ONE payment must be made for the whole group.
- A 50% non-refundable deposit is needed 2 months prior to check-in.
- A cleaning fee may be applied to all groups, depending on the total number of rooms booked.
- A credit card is needed to hold a group reservation.

Group Policies:
- Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10:00pm-7:30 am as we have other guests lodging with us, please respect our quiet hours. We are not a party place! Mobile phone numbers of chaperones are needed to assist in enforcing quiet hours with their group.
- Taxes: Currently 17.962% Hawaii State taxes will be added to our prices quoted.
- Alcohol in the United States…many of the groups we entertain each year have young people who, although allowed to drink at home in England , Europe and Australia/NZ at 17 and 18 years old, are not permitted to drink in the US until 21. Group organizers must be made aware that it is a VERY serious offence in the US to provide alcohol to a minor (under 21) much less a whole group. The social host liability law establishes criminal penalties of up to one year in jail, fines of up to $1000, or both, for adults who furnish alcoholic beverages to anyone younger than age 21. The previous law only prohibited adults from buying alcohol for minors. Under the new law, adults who “knowingly” provide liquor to someone younger than age 21 or have knowledge of underage drinking on their property, and could have prevented it, can be held financially responsible for any third party injury that may ensue from the provision.
- No refunds for changing the number of guests, number of nights, or number of rooms within one month of the group reservation’s check-in.
