Witness Hawaii's land of frozen fire on this half-day excursion. Our adventure will head towards the area of Kalapana. On our way we'll make a stop where the recent 2014 lava flow inundated a home and the transfer station in Pahoa, and we'll pass through Pahoa Town. Experience the true feeling of old and new Hawaii as you venture to an area rich in natural wonders. View the active work of Pele and her beauty all around you; from pine forests, to cliff faces overlooking the Pacific, to black sand beaches. Speaking of black sand, prepare to view Kaimu, the site of a famous black sand beach and a small town that were destroyed in the 1990 lava flow. We will walk out onto the "frozen fire" for half a mile and possibly even see the active volcanic vent in the distance. See Uncle Robert's Hawaiian Enclave which was spared from the lava flows by only a few feet. Visit Lava Tree State Park to see ghostly shells of trees once covered by lava flows. Knowledgeable guides will provide interesting commentary on the area's culture and geologic history. Please be aware that volcanic activity can lead to road closures, so your tour has been designed to take advantage of the best sites available. If direct lava viewing becomes available that will take precedence over other portions of the tour.
Departure time from Arnott's Lodge will be 9:00 a.m. Tour duration will be 5-6 hours. Pickups are available from most major Hilo hotels.

We recommend that you bring sunscreen, good walking shoes, water and an adventurous attitude.
Cancellation Policy:
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancel your accommodation and/or tour prior to 48 hours of check in and you will be refunded amount minus $49 for a cancellation fee for each accommodation and tour you booked. No refunds for cancellations or no shows within our 48 hour cancellation policy. No refunds for early checkouts once you've checked in.
