Is there a minimum age for your Mauna Kea Tour?
Yes, guests need to be at least 13 years old.
Is there a minimum amount of passengers needed for your standard tours?
Yes, 2 passengers minimum.
Do you provide custom or private tours?

Do you provide telescopes on your Mauna Kea Tour?
No, we do not provide telescopes. We conduct our stargazing show with a laser pointer.
Can I use the telescopes at the Visitor’s Center during your tour?
No, commercial tour companies are not allowed to use the telescopes at the Visitor’s Center.
Do we tour an observatory during the Summit tour?
No, most of the observatories are not open to the public for tours. The ones that do allow public entry are closed by the time our tour reaches the summit. If you are interested in touring an observatory specifically, please check out our Mauna Kea Day tour or schedule a private tour. Please be aware that only the Keck Observatory allows public access, and only during weekdays. If you are interested in the Subaru telescope, you will have to make reservations with them personally.
Do you provide jackets?
Jackets are available upon request. If you will need to use one of our jackets, please let us know. We have sizes S-3XL.
Do you provide food on any of your tours?
No, but ask your guide nicely and he/she may do a food stop for you. If not, bring your own food with you. We recommend a light meal for your Mauna Kea Tour.
Can I bring a suitcase, duffel bag, bicycle, wheelchair (etc.) on this tour?
No, we do not have the space to accommodate large bags or equipment in our vehicles. Guests are limited to small bags only.
Do you provide private Mauna Kea tours?

Can my child under the age of 13 years old go on your Mauna Kea tour?
No, we will not accept any children under the age of 13 on either the standard tour or private tours.
Can I participate on the Mauna Kea Tour if I’m pregnant?
No, please read our terms and conditions on our Mauna Kea tour page.
Can I participate on the Mauna Kea Tour if I scuba dived within 24 hours of the tour?
No, please read our terms and conditions on our Mauna Kea tour page.
Can I participate on the Mauna Kea tour if I have severe health problems?
Not advised; please read our terms and conditions on our Mauna Kea tour page.
Can I drive my rental car to the summit of Mauna Kea?
It all depends on the rental company and if they allow it. Your vehicle needs to be 4wd, and you’ll need to discuss with your rental car company to see what their limitations are.
What’s your cancellation policy for your accommodation and tours?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancel your accommodation and/or tour prior to 48 hours of check in and you will be refunded amount minus $49 for a cancellation fee for each accommodation and tour you booked. No refunds for cancellations or no shows within our 48 hour cancellation policy. No refunds for early checkouts once you’ve checked in.
Do I get a refund if I don’t get to see stars?
No, our goal is to reach the summit. Sunsets and stargazing are definitely a bonus, but we cannot guarantee them. We have no control over weather or cloud cover. If the road is closed, the tour will be cancelled. If you still wish to try to go to the VIS even if the road may remain closed, no refund will be offered at that point.
For group bookings only: we require an initial $50 non-refundable deposit to hold the reservation, then a 50% non-refundable deposit 2 months prior to check-in. The remainder will be due upon check-in. No changes will be allowed to group reservations one month or less from the date of check-in.
Can I change my reservation?
Yes, you may change your reservation by email or by phone. Once a change has been made, if you cancel your reservation no refund will be given.
