Here we are at Christmas time 2023. Today we had our staff Christmas party, which was marked by two things.
One was the amazing cake and chocolate strawberries provided by Mauna Kea Guide Andras and his wife.
The other was a very clever game facilitated by Lauren involving a tightly wound ball of Saran Wrap that was hundreds of layers deep and shed all kinds of goodies as it was unwound on the roll of a dice.
As we approach the winter season for Mauna Kea we have yet to have a full sub-zero night, as the same conditions that have provided drought for much of the Island are keeping the Summit warm.
We continue to highly recommend that you buy Travel Insurance as mainland weather and airline staffing challenges continue to delay and inconvenience travellers.
We also recommend that those intending to do our Mauna Kea summit tour purchase a pair of inexpensive compact Binoculars and learn to use them well, before going to see one of the most amazing things you will ever observe if you are a city dweller.
Follow along as our guides use a powerful laser pointer to highlight what Constellations, Planets, North Star, Southern Cross or passing Space Station are visible on your night. Our guides can teach you to use AMAZING phone apps and features that allow modern phones to capture images formerly only seen in National Geographic or an Astronomy Magazine….and some pre-study before you come would be an advantage.
Please be aware that the bright moon makes stargazing very difficult for everyone for 7-10 days a month and that the focus of our tour is to get you safely to the Summit for sunset at 14,000ft (4200m): one of the world’s great sights.
We have special rates now for those that stay in our hotel and do our Mauna Kea Tour….ask our staff about our discounts.
We have recently signed up with HipCamp to make more travellers aware of the Big Island’s best campground by far, with its own mini-kitchen and great video security to safeguard your belongings while you are out looking at our Volcano, turtles, or manta rays.
We wish you safe flights, smooth airport passage and easy arrival in Hawaii.
The proposed merger of Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines is expected to provide new opportunities for travel and a recently announced Hawaiian direct Salt Lake to Honolulu Flight is expected to get good demand.
Have a Safe Christmas and an Amazing New Year.
