Discover the duality of Pele in this tour highlighting the beauty of Puna. Learn how volcanoes like Kilauea can both destroy and create, which is spectacularly on display in the lower east rift zone that experienced the 2014 and 2018 eruptions firsthand. Pass through Pahoa town, a unique place full of resilient people who truly know how to “go with the flow”. See the island’s newest black sand beach and learn the story behind its creation. Along the way, stop at some of Puna’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Sea Arch and Painted Church. See Hilo’s own Rainbow Falls, an 80 ft marvel on the Wailuku River. Refresh yourself with a visit to a delicious organic shave ice from Kula Shave Ice and try a local delicacy called poke at our final stop in Hilo. This tour may sometimes be run in a different order: we will go to lava viewing if it becomes available and may have to go in a different direction if Civil Defense or USGS deem the current area unsafe. As this tour is intended to show you latest volcanic events your guide will inform you of any changes on the day of your tour.
